  • Applications for Fall 2009 must be completed by January 15, 2009. Applicants will be admitted on a first come, first served basis beginning September 1, 2008.
  • Completed applications include the Graduate School Online Application and all supplemental information needed by the School of Social Work. What exactly do I need to complete my application?

For more information

Master of Social Work applicants seeking admission to the MSW program must apply to both the Illinois State University Graduate School and complete the School of Social Work supplemental information. Your acceptance to the MSW program is contingent on admission to the ISU Graduate School.

Follow these steps (in this order):

  1. Choose whether you will be pursuing the Child and Family Practice concentration or the School Social Work concentration. If you are applying to the School Social Work concentration, you must take the Basic Skills Test. These test scores are required to complete your application for the School Social Work concentration.
  2. Apply with the Graduate School by completing the online application.
  3. Once the Illinois State University Graduate School receives all of the necessary documents to complete your application, you will receive an email from socialwork@ilstu.edu with a link to supplemental information for the School of Social Work MSW program. Be sure to add socialwork@ilstu.edu to your address book so that the message is not sent to your junk mail.
  4. This link will lead you to the electronic recommendation form that must be emailed to your recommenders. The recommenders then will email the completed form back to us, once completed.
  5. The link will also provide instructions on how to upload your resume and personal statement to our system..

What materials do I need to apply to the MSW program?

General admission requirements to the program are listed in the social work section of Illinois State Graduate Catalog (you may need to scroll down to view the start of the Social Work section).
